I've seen a few teams who have gone exclusively to the rugby style punting. It seems to me that the line executes an outside zone reach and rip block. The punter catches the ball and sprints to his right (if he's a right-footed punter) and kicks the ball on the run with a low trajectory. The ball usually rolls a great deal and limits return yardage because of the crazy bounces. I like it because it is hard for a rush team to block a kick if they don't know where the block point is. I also think its great for net yardage because it seems that less punts are returnable. What are your thoughts?

I THINK I remember being told that if you don't have a true Punter, just a good soccer player, they are more comfortable with the rugby kick. Personally, I think its another attempt by those Pinkos to mess with football. Next they'll be trying to put 11 eligible receivers on the field...

The other thought with the rugby style punt is to use that soccer style kid who is an athlete and teach him to read the defense. Let him read the widest rushers and the corners. (somehow dont have a good explanation of this) and give him a run-kick option. To me it is the same thought on the sprint out/naked game where a QB has the pass-run read. I know the intial reaction is the kid is a kicker which means he is a nutjob. But if you can figure out the read and the kicker is a good enough athlete (or an athlete who is a good enough kicker) you could create a dangerous play or at least the threat.

Wow, we're giving PUNTERS decision making power now? And asking them to RUN THE BALL? I guess if you have an athletic punter who has some football sense, that's a great idea. Of course, when you have an athletic punter who's sensible and reasonable and understands football, you have to let me know. And tell me if he showed up to practice riding a Unicorn or a Liger.

Can someone give me some names of schools (HS or College) that do this rather well? I really want to look at this as we do have a couple of pretty athletic QB-type, good runners that also punt pretty decent.
