With the changes in offense, what are you looking for in an offensive lineman? Especially with the spread guys, is the big 300 pounder who's strong as an ox but maybe not that great blocking downfield on the screen, even something you want? What are you gonna do with that guy?

To me the three key needs for an OL, no matter the scheme, is 1. Aggressiveness 2. Explosion 3. Body Control
I think its great to have the size and the speed, but you need a guy who who is coming to get out of his stance looking for contact now. You want him out of your stance as fast possible, plenty of coaches will tell you the battle at the line is decided within the first second (who gets on who first). I also think it is crucial for the guy to know is body and be able to put it into the most conducive positions for winning the battles. He has to be able to get low, move laterally, backwards and do all this out of a body position that is the most unnatural for the body.

But he's got to have some sort of size and physical strength, right? How are you going to throw a guy that is 150lbs out there? Its impossible for him to really hold his ground, right?
