Anyone running the Pistol formation? Or defending it? What are you doing out of it and what advantages do you see? On my blog at football-defense.blogspot.com I'm going to take some time to look into stopping the pistol, but I've never really had to defend it. So far, advantages I see are: 1) Quick hand-off for zone running game 2) Tailback is hidden from view of the linebackers 3) Easy to go between one-back spread running game and 2-back I-formation game (and on that note, you can formation an opponent to death and keep the core sound) What have you found effective out of this formation? Another aspect which I like is the ability to run your veer and midline option game out of the pistol. Thoughts?
